Field Trips
Thank you so much for enquiring about doing a field trip for
your class or scout group.
Hours available to book a field trip for your class/ scout
troops or home school group :
- Wednesdays: 1-2, 2-3, 3- 4, 4-5 all PM
- Thursdays: 9-10am, 10-11am, 5-6pm
- Fridays: 9-10 am, 10-11am 5-6pm
Educational activities for your group:
Your class / group will have a private hour PLUS 4 main
activities at the Scratch Patch Earth's Minerals:
- Our staff will do a discussion on identification of specific
rocks and the countries where the rocks are from, followed by a
- Group Treasure Hunt game for the specific rocks discussed.
- After the treasure hunt game all children sit among the rocks and
pick out their own selection of rocks using our identification charts
to look up the names of the rocks and using the world map to find the
countries where the rocks they picked are from.
- Then each child gets time to fill a bag with rocks to take home.
A detailed description of what the hour will look like:
This hour starts with a treasure hunt.
We show the children a few rocks (depending on the ages of the
children the amount of rocks discussed increased with the age
of the group) We teach them the names of these rocks and the
countries the rocks are from.
After that the class or group do a " treasure hunt" for those
specific rocks which where discussed, the children help each other
until each child finds all of the rocks they have learned about.
After the treasure hunt game and discussion the group or class
use our identification charts to identify even more rocks and to
pick the rocks they really like out of a variety of over a 150
different kinds of rocks and minerals , then each child gets a
bag to fill with their individualized choice of rocks they hand
picked.
Our Staff assists the children to find the rocks they pick on the
chart as well as the country the rocks are from on the world map.
Each child picks the rocks he/ she really likes to take home, to
start or build their rock collection.
Each child leaves inspired with knowledge of different countries
and a bag with shiny beautiful rocks.
Cost of a field trip:
For 15 or more children cost is: FREE ADMISSION only $8.72 per
child which include 1 hour private time at the Scratch patch, all
activities, plus a medium bag of rocks they take home with them.
For less than 15 children cost is $50 ADMISSION plus $8.72 per
child which include 1 hour private time at the Scratch patch, all
activities, plus a medium bag of rocks they take home with them.
The Scratch patch can accommodate up to 25-30 children maximum.
Payment for a field trip/ school group/ scout troops:
If it is 15 or more kids it is free admission and each child just
need to buy a medium bag (which is the smallest bag we have) for
$8, 71 (this is tax included).
It is good to let the parents know before hand ....normally the
schools or scout groups, just pay us with a check made out the
Scratch patch Earth's Minerals or credit card after they have
collected all the money from all the parents.
If older children ( 10- 14 years old )want to get large bags
they are welcome to: The large bags cost $16.35 ( tax included)
If the group is less than 15 children we ask a $50 admission
FEE PLUS each child has to buy a medium bag : thus $50 plus $8.72
for each child.
The medium bag which they get to take home with their hand picked
stones can hold up to 30 rocks, depending on the size of the rocks
they pick.
Our Bags are:
- $8 for medium bags
- $15 for large bags
- $25 for XL bags

- $3.50 non laminated
- $6.50 laminated
